Each ingredient maps to a physical cause. The muffled warmth is what happens when a playback system can't reproduce high frequencies; the wobble is wow and flutter, the speed variations of tape transports and off-centre records; the crackle is dust in a vinyl groove; the saturation is magnetic tape rounding off peaks it can't store.

A lowpass filter removes the sparkle up top and a highpass thins the sub. Old media couldn't reproduce the extremes, so losing them is what reads as 'played back on something else'.

Saturation raises the level, so the render trims the output to compensate and stay clear of clipping. If you want it louder, normalise or limit it afterwards — that's a mastering step rather than a lofi one.
