How to measure your range

1. Start and warm up
Allow microphone access, then start on a comfortable note in the middle of your voice. Measuring cold gives you a smaller range than you actually have.
2. Slide low, then high
Sustain each note for a second or so rather than sweeping quickly — the analyser only counts frames it's confident about, and a fast glide barely registers.
3. Read your range
The top and bottom 5% of readings are trimmed before the result is calculated, so one squeak or vocal fry can't inflate your range beyond what you can actually sing.

How do I find my vocal range?

Sing down to the lowest note you can hold cleanly, then up to the highest, sustaining each note rather than sliding. This tool tracks the pitch live and reports the lowest and highest notes it confidently measured, expressed as note names like C3 and A4.

What is a typical vocal range?

Most untrained singers cover somewhere between 1.5 and 2 octaves. Trained singers commonly reach 2 to 3, and the famous outliers go well beyond that. Range is only one measure of a voice — tone, control and where your range sits matter more for what you can actually sing.

Does this tell me my voice type?

Not on its own, and be sceptical of tools that claim to. Voice type — soprano, alto, tenor, bass and the rest — depends on tessitura, where your voice sits comfortably for long stretches, plus timbre and passaggio placement. Your outer limits are just one input to that judgement.

Why is my measured range smaller than I expected?

Usually one of three things: you're not warmed up, you slid through notes too quickly for the detector to lock on, or the extremes were breathy enough to fall below the confidence threshold. Sustain each note for about a second and try again after warming up.

What does the comfortable centre mean?

It's the median of every pitch you produced during the take — a rough indication of where your voice naturally sat, rather than where its limits are. Since it's biased by how long you spent at each pitch, it's a hint rather than a formal tessitura measurement.

Is my singing recorded or uploaded?

No. Audio is analysed frame by frame in your browser and discarded immediately — only the detected frequencies are kept in memory to compute the range, and those disappear when you reload. Nothing is stored and nothing leaves your device.
